New ranks

New ranks

With all the new characters and great ideas lately, I was starting to wonder if there are enough 'different' ranks to choose from? Are there things that you would love to see added to the list? When I created the RPG I added the most basic ranks, but now that we are up and running, I gladly would like to expand the list. So if you have an idea (of any kind) just SHOOT!

I think that maybe: Wanderer
Could be an interesting rank.

After all there are a few in the series, and as wanderer the character could get involved with more complexer plotlines in different places what makes such characters interesting and gives them many different options.

So my first thought was something magic like, like i said in the box, but then I think that might not work out.

A seer could work but a witch or something wouldn't fit.

However I was wondering if we could add like a Saxton rank?
Like an english person who is with the vikings?

Mentos | So if I am understanding right, you are suggesting a new group? Now there are 4 groups: Uddevalla, Skagen, Skagerrak and Kattegat. But the 'wanderers' would be a group of themselves you mean? Because if can't really see how 'wanderer' could be a rank inside of an already existing group it could be a limit on my imagination, so if you see it different, I would love to be enlightened!

Angel | Yes, like I said earier in the chatbox, we would like to keep things as realistic as possible and very close to the series. So 'real' magic can't be allowed here, unfortunately. But as you know, in real life there are also spiritual people.. people who can 'see' or 'feel' things that another can not. Ofcourse it is up to everybody himself if he believes in such kind of stuff or not but I definately do, to a certain level. And I would love to see some of these things in the RPG. As you know the Gods are a very big aspect in the life of vikings, and seers and seeresses are the connection between the Gods and the humans.

For the Saxton-rank I have kind of the same question for you as I have for Mentos. You mean it as an new group or as a new rank inside an existing group? Because at this moment it is already possible to play a former Saxton person who now lives in a Viking village. Mostly they will have the Thrall-rank, but ofcourse it is also possible for them to climb up in rank. (Take Athelstan as an example). So I don't really know what you mean with a 'Saxton' rank

It could be a new group, would be easiest.

But it also could be a rank.
You could put the character in the group of the place where he or she was born, but then he takes the rank as wanderer as he travels mostly and doesn't really stay in one place. So they are a wanderer that originaly came from Kattegat, Skagen, Uddevalla or skagerrak.

Or it could be you put them in the group where they come the most? Though that would complicate things again.

But if you don't want to make a new group I think it's best to put them in the group of the place they were born and came from. ^.^

Mentos | Aha, that makes sense! So they wander around, but eventually always return to their homeplace (so one of the 4 villages). Sounds good, I think it can be a very interesting rank. For example that they wander around commisioned by the earl or the king? To discover new lands, spy on other villages ect.. How does that sound?
I think making it an entire new group is a litte bit too much. Because every group has its own subfora, and it would be hard to create a subfora that is detailled enough for the wanderers.

Yes exactly!
And that was what I was thinking too. It gives so many options so I think it would be awesome! ;)

Your right,they would most likely be a Thrall who needs to work their way up the rank train.

I like Mentos idea though.

Healer might be a good one, too. Like for Brynja and Redra, even though they have a small farm they'll probably wind up being primarily healers. Plus in such a warrior-oriented society, they would definitely be needed! They could even travel with raiders and stuff, if there's ever a raid or something in the game.
