Garth has been spending a lot more time in the forge after his sister went home. They had, had some intense conversations and he needed to get his mind off them and onto making more weapons and selling them to the many people around the village. He didn’t want to lose focus on why he moved here in the first place. This was Garth’s chance to make a name for himself despite his last name. He wanted to prove everyone who had looked down on him for being and odinson. That he could and work be great at something, just like they could. Garth thought many things like that as he best his hammer  into the hot steal before him. He was working on a sword for his sister, as a gift for her coming birthday. As well as a sword that had been requested by one of the many Viking warriors from the village. Garth knew he needed to make them both perfect. For he wanted his sister to have the best, and wanted the Viking to tell others of his work and send him more customers. More customers meant more riches, and more riches meant he would be able to buy better materials and things for his hut.

Walking around the forge Garth looked around for tools as his steal heated up in the fire. The problem with more than one person working in here at once was things were borrowed and often not put back in the right place. Between himself, Prince Ivar, and Svart Rauðrsson Gartr was sure he wasted more time then he should as he looked around to see where items were left. Finding what he was looking for finally Garth made his way back to his sword and pulled it out of the fire to let it cool down just a bit before hitting, and molding it back into place. Using the prongs he had found to hold the steal in place he stared to try and tin the steal out just a bit as he saw a crack appear. “Damn it!” Garth said as he threw his hammer to the side in frustration. Nearly hitting Svart, who was just walking into the forge. Moving around in anger, Garth made sure to say “Sorry Svart, just frustrated clearly. I hadn't seen you coming in.” as he went to pick up the hammer he threw and try to fix his mistakes. His mind was clearly in the wrong place, and it was showing in his work. Now he was most likely going to have to start all over on the sword he had been working on for days. He grunted as he looked at the large crack in the steal before be looked back up toward Svart.

You see this cape? Ha!
I say goddamn I'm sexy!

As winter was coming, he knew he would need some new warm clothes. During his travels, he had worn out a lot of nice and comfortable pieces of clothing. Being out in the wild sure wasn’t good for any piece of fabric. But now it was getting colder, he had to restock his warm clothing, to make sure he would stay nice and cozy. That’s why he had taken the morning of, so he could visit the dressmaker. He had brought in some pelts he had traded with a merchant earlier that week. They would make a great tunic. The dressmaker had measured his body, so it would fit perfectly. While in the shop though, something had caught his eyes. A cape, made out of the fur of a bear. He had no idea where it had come from, but he knew he wanted to have it. So he had asked him the price and paid it in full. He felt like it was a fair price to pay, and he wasn’t one to bargain.

So with his new cape around his shoulders, Svart paraded through Kattegat. He felt pretty good about his purchase, even though it had costed him quite a lot of gold. He would earn it back, one day. It wasn’t as if it was useless anyways. He would profit from it when the cold came. For now, he entered the shop, and was greeted by the familiair warmth of the fire and… A hammer being tossed his way? It wasn’t as if it would have hit him, but he could actually feel his heart rate go up. “Sorry Svart, just frustrated clearly. I hadn't seen you coming in.” He then heard Garth say. ”You scared me for a minute there”, He chuckled. Curiously he looked at what the man was doing that had made him so frustrated. ”What’s going on?” He asked him. He was always prepared to help someone out if he could put his skills at use.

Garth looked his friend over for a moment when he said “you scared me for a minute there” to him. The statement made Garth smile just a little bit. Looking at Svart more he saw that he had gotten himself a new cape. It looked to be made from a bear and was made quite nicely. It made him want to get something as nice, but at the same time he would most likely just burn it. Garth tended to burn a lot of his clothes. He was happy his mother still sent him new clothes or gave them to him when he saw her. For he would have to live on the streets to replace all the clothes he had burned over he years. “That was not my intention” garth finally said in reply to Svart before he heard he man speak again. “What’s going on?” Svart had asked him. Taking a deep breathe he reached down and grabbed the cooler steal with his gloved hand. He didn't want to show the other man his mistake, but they were friends and he trusted him to not make fun of his mistake. Besides Garth would never do that to him, things like this somehow happened. Even if it was beyond frustrating when it did.

Walking over to Svart he pushed the steal closer to him, being careful not to hurt him because it was in fact still very hot. “I made a crack in the steal.”  He said first before letting another annoyed grunt fall from his mouth. “My mind was somewhere else, and it cost me. I fear I have to start all over” he said next as he pulled the sword away and set it back down. He was so mad at himself for wasting all that time working on something just to ruin something in seconds. It had been years since the last time he had put a crack in the steal like he and done today. It embarrassed him as well, that Svart had seen this and his angry fit. “Unless you think it’s salvageable I’m just going to melt it down.” Garth said to the other blacksmith. Maybe he would be able to think of a way to make it better, to help him fix his mistake. It would be better than starting all over again, and would be less costly to himself too. He just hoped that this small set back wouldn't keep him from getting the sword perfect for his dear sisters birthday. If it did he would have to think of something else to get her before he went home to visit.

The mood in the shop was usually light hearted. If they were working together, they mostly joked around a bit. Not too much, so they wouldn’t keep each other out of focus, but still. He had taken a liking in Garth and knew him as a hard worker, yet with a playful attitude. To see him like this surprised him. Then again, it could happen. Even Svart had his bad days. He tried to make a little joke, so the other would feel a bit better. At least he smiled again, even though it didn’t seem very convincing. “That was not my intention” The other smith said, and he simply nodded. ”I know, my friend. If it had been your intention I suppose you would have hit me for real”, He chuckled. He had actually no idea how good his aim was, but he suspected he would be quite able to hit a target if he really wanted to.

No, as Garth had said, it was pure frustration. So he asked what exactly was wrong. Apparently he had had a smithing accident. Carefully he looked at the blade the smith was holding. He inspected the crack, knowing it would be very hard to save it. But he wanted to try. ”You heat it up again, we’ll fold it on the crack. Then we’ll use some more steel to reinforce the weak parts. Did you temper the blade in water or oil?” He asked, while he turned to his own work space and ignited the fire. It was a risky attempt, but if it worked, at least he wouldn’t have to start all over again. Svart took a lump of steel and put it in the center of the fire, aiming for it to melt at around the same time Garth would be ready with the blade.

Garth felt himself cracking a smile at his fiend as he listened to him speak. ”I know, my friend. If it had been your intention I suppose you would have hit me for real”, He was very right, if Garth had meant to hit the other man, then he would have. Before he dedicated his whole like to being a smith, he use to train with the vikings in his old village. Because he hadn't been sure if he wanted to become a viking or not at first. However when his sister started to train as well, he stopped and become a smith completely. Because he realized he loved it far more then anything else, and he hoped that his sister would chose something else as well. However she hadn't and was now a shield maiden. A very good and powerful one at that, it made Garth both nervous and proud of her. "It would have" he said answering his friend with a smirk. Svart's presence was already starting to calm him frustration down a bit. The two of them had a way of joking with one an other.

Garth was sure they got along a lot more because they had both moved from their homes and came to a new village to do a trade that others that were already there could have maybe been able to do. However they both had come, and were doing very well. They had taken over the forge aside from when Prince Ivar came in, and they did all the orders themselves. ”You heat it up again, we’ll fold it on the crack. Then we’ll use some more steel to reinforce the weak parts. Did you temper the blade in water or oil?” Garth heard Svart say. Taking the steal he threw in back in the fire to heat it up like his friend said to do. " I was using oil, should I maybe switch to water instead?" He asked as he went around and grabbed all the materials they would need to try and fix this things. He grabbed more steal and got ready to add it to the blade. Once the blade was hot enough he folded it gently on its side until the crack was sealed. The he placed more steal onto the area before placing it back into the fire. "You have anything you need help with? I'll gladly repay the favor, even if this doesn't work." Garth said as he looked over at Svart. He waited unit the new steal on the blade was hot enough before he took it out to try and smooth it an blend it together.

You see this cape? Ha!
I say goddamn I'm sexy!

Back when he was training to be a blacksmith in Uddevalla, he had never done any combat training. It hadn’t been a priority. It was only when he had left the city, or maybe escaped it would be a better way to put it, he had picked up axe training. In the wild it was an important skill to have. On the battlefield as well. But blacksmiths usually didn’t go raiding. So why would they learn to throw a weapon in the first place? He didn’t know much about Garth’s past, but he had seen him carrying weapons before. So at least he had to know how to handle one, right? It would be weird if he only carried them around as decoration. If he wanted to look sexy, he had to buy a cape, just like Svart. But not one that was cooler than his. Then he’d take the spotlight, and even though he liked his friend, he’d prefer to be in it himself. Ghehe.

Svart quickly came up with a plan to maybe save the sword. He couldn’t really guarantee it, but they could at least try. "I was using oil, should I maybe switch to water instead?" Garth replied to his question. He thought about it for a second. ”Yes, but boil it. The hotter it is when you put it in, the better”, He said. Hopefully that would make a little difference. From the moment the steel was melted enough to be a gooey bright orange mess, he took the stone jar out of the fire with a clamp. "You have anything you need help with? I'll gladly repay the favor, even if this doesn't work." He heard Garth ask. When he turned around, carefully not to push anything over, he just smiled at him broadly.

”Naah it’s fine. Let’s just see if it works, I’m a bit curious myself so I might be using this as an opportunity to learn as well”, He grinned. He walked over with the liquified material and looked at the newly folded blade. Then he carefully poured some of the metal on the crack, so it would seep into the core as far as it could possibly go. ”Alright, I think this should do it”, He said, thinking out loud. Now it would just be a matter of polishing it enough so the materials would cling together properly.

Garth Looked at Svart and nodded when he said ”Yes, but boil it. The hotter it is when you put it in, the better”, to his question about if he should use water instead of oil. He supposed that that made sense. That too cold of water would just make the sword crack again, if not break even worse then it was already."Yes, that makes sense, thank you." he said before he went around the room getting his supplies ready so he could start getting the water ready to boil. First he found a clean pot, and then he went outside for a moment to gather some water. He knew he needed to be quick, for he didn't want to leave the sword in the fire to long. Then it would get too hot and melt the shape, and all this extra work he was doing would be for nothing. Plus he would be more embarrassed in front of Svart then he already was for throwing the hammer in his anger. Once he got everything he needed he made his way back in and put the pot onto the fire.

Walking over to the Sword he pulled it out of the fire and looked toward Svart. ”Naah it’s fine. Let’s just see if it works, I’m a bit curious myself so I might be using this as an opportunity to learn as well”, He said in reply to Garth asking if he could help him with anything. This made Garth smile, and be glad he worked with someone like Svart, and not someone who would make fun of him for his mistake. Garth watched as Svart walked over with he melted metal and poured it onto the crack, The two of them watching it work as Svart said ”Alright, I think this should do it”, last. Smiling Garth patted his friend on the back and said " thank you for your help, now I don't have to start all over. he said as he went to work putting the sword into the now boiling water before putting it back into the fire to heat and melt together better. This was going to really work, and now the sword would be even stronger with the extra metal added to it. As Garth walked around working on small things here and there he looked over to Svart and said "I like the new cape. It suites you." to him with a large smile. He really did like his cape, it was very warm looking, but he hoped his friend was careful not to ruin it wearing in the forge like he was.

Pulling the sword back out Garth took it over to his work stations and started polishing it, and working it together. Doing anything to make it look smooth and clean, like the crack had never been there in the first place. "So how are you doing anyways? Any new orders you working on?" he said, trying to make small talk, but also curious too."Still no women in your life?" Garth added jokingly with a small smirk directed at Svart."Or are they all intimidated by your love for your fantastic new cape?" He was just joking, and he knew his friend would know that.
