Kattegat Raid

groupstopic

Before we officially start the raid I want to give a little insight on the meaning of this group thread. This thread is mainly the start of the raid, every character participating on the raid will post in here one time. He/she will write about his arrival at the beach. They can talk over strategies or just prepare themselves for the actually raid. As soon as everybody has replied Janne or me will wrap it up with one last post and then everybody can start threads on there own or just start other smaller group threads, whatever you guys want. But first, reply here.

Good luck,
Janne & Jennifer

Don't fear death if it comes, embrace it as if you lying down next to a beautifull woman. Don't look back to what you had but look forward to what you can achieve, in that way the Gods can gift you with beauty that even a woman doesn't have.
His feet sunk down in the watery sand of that beach as he jumped out of the boat. His hand slapping against the wood of the boat while he turned around and grinned, pulling his noise up as he walked further over the beach. After days of travel they finally arrived, around 55 warriors and all eager to get back in the raiding. Ever since Ragnar left Kattegat didn’t go raiding again … in a way everybody hoped for the king to return, but he never did and Aslaug started to realize it was up to her sons to make the stories, revive the reputation Ragnar left. After Björn left the queen of Kattegat permitted her sons to go raid and here they were. Ubbe turned around and looked over to the men who joined him on this raid. For all these years this was where he was looking forward to, his first raid.

Everybody pulled the boats on more dry land, started preparing themselves for what to come. Ubbe looked aside to his brothers, Ivar dragging his body over to his chariot and horse that followed all the way here. Ubbe rested his hand on his axe as he turned around to his other brothers, the people assembling around them. Was he nervous? No, but he knew a lot of people were counting on him to make this raid work. Aslaug told about this village, hearing from a village where traders and people stocked valuable possessions. So they found somebody who was willing on spilling some information and prepared the raid.

‘Do we know how this village looks like?’ A man asked out loud. Ubbe turned around and looked over to the men, shaking his head. Ivar leaned over the edge of his chariot, that eager gaze in his eyes, the grin around his lips as he looked over his brothers, Thora and the rest of the men. ‘Then let’s go take a look.’ He announced, grabbing his reins a little more in hand before sitting up in the chariot. ‘Or do you rather walk in there without knowing where you will walk into to?’ Ivar followed challenging. Ubbe looked up to him and just nodded and Ivar clicked his tongue, turning his horse around. A small group agreed on following him to go investigate the village from on a distant while the others stayed behind to make a good camp and empty the boats, discussing possible tactics, things they would do.

The boat ride over had been a little more ruff then Sassa had saw coming. At first everything had been very good for her. She had been so excited to be going on her first raid with her best fiends and her lover. She has trained so hard, and proved herself to be someone who could do this, who could be on this raid with everyone else like she had always wanted. However, as the time on the boat went on. She started to feel rather sick. So sick that she was sneaking to throw up over the sides. It made her feel weak in a lot of ways. That she was getting sick when she didn't see anyone else doing it around her. Arngeir looked to be doing fine on his own, so she kept the fact that she was getting sick to herself. She didn't need him to be worry about her being week and throwing up over the side of the boat.So Sassa did her best to push though the sickness she was feeling and focus on the face that she was about to be in a real battle. She was going to see real death, and take peoples lives. Something she had never done before, but was prepared to do to help her village do better. To help her friends, and the queen do better.Plus now that she had been kick out of her mothers house, she needed to do well on this raid so she could be awarded riches and be able to support herself better. She didn't want Arngeir or Throa to feel like they would need to help her out for a long time.

when he boat hits the beach Sassa gets off and helps everyone pull the boats farther up the beach and into the sand. The feeling of having her feet on solid ground in amazing, and she is glad to be out of the boat for a little bit. At least now she wasn't going to feel horrible and ill anymore, or well she hoped she wasn't going to anyways. She didn't need to be in the middle of fighting someone and throwing up to the side. She would die here for sure. Looking around her eyes land on Ubbe, and his three brothers. They were the leaders of this and what they said next to them was what was important. ‘Do we know how this village looks like?’ she hears a man that is around her ask. That was a very good point. If they entered into a battle zone that they had no idea what it looked like, there could be problems, but if they could get an idea of what the layout of this village was. They would be able to have the upper hand, and a better chance of wining this raid then loosing it.

With her eyes still on Ubbe, she moves a little bit closer to Argneir. She wants to stay near him, and she is almost certain he wants her to stay near him as well. ‘Then let’s go take a look.’ she hears Ivar say to everyone and she nods. That really would be the smartest idea, if they wanted to be able to have the upper hand. ‘Or do you rather walk in there without knowing where you will walk into to?’ Ivar throws in to them next. Even if she thought Ivar was a crazy little jerk most of the time, she knew that hew as rather intelligent from growing up being friends with his two older brothers. She had seen his intelligence first hand being around them. So she knew that he would be thinking about everything before they did it. That would also be helpful for them in winning this raid. Stepping close to Arngeir again, she grabs his arm for a moment to give him a small smile and says "Are you ready for this? Because I am as ready as I'll ever be..." to him. She waits for his answer, before she looks away and back toward what was going to happen next. She needed to have her focus this raid, and protecting him.

For Garth leaving ended up being a lot harder then he had thought it was going to be. Maybe it had been talking to Iliana before he left, or the things that had happen between them. However after talking to her, he almost didn't want to go anymore. He had wanted to stay home with her and the brand new dogs he had gotten for himself and her. At least she agreed to take care of them. So he didn't have to find someone else to do it, and they would look after her and protect her while hew as away and unable to take care of her. Not that she needs to be taken care of, but he just wanted to be able to do so. However he made sure that he was on the boats for the raid and he left her back in Kattegat. Where she would be safe, at least he hoped she would be anyways. If something happened to her while he was gone be would lose his mind, but he couldn't think that way right now. He had to focus on being here and on his raid. He would have time with her when he got back home. If he wasn't focused he could get killed, even though he wasn't going to be on the actual battle grounds.

The boat ride hadn't been to hard for him. He never got sick on boats however so it wasn't like it was something he was worried about happening to him. There was a beautiful blonde haired women however that was on his boat that had gotten sick a few times. From what he could see she was trying to hide it as well. So being the nice person that he was, anytime she looked like she was going to puke he would draw attention to himself, or just block peoples view of her. So she wouldn't have to worry about feeling weird about it. Garth was pretty sure some people still noticed, however they had know idea how much she really was getting sick. He worried that it was more then just simple sea sickness, but he didn't know the women that well. Just that she was a Thegn, and a lot of men in the village spoke about her behind her back. Most of the things they said were wrong and he tried to ignore them. Garth was not one to speak about women like they were objects like other men would do around him.

When the boats hit shore, he slowly jumps out and stretches his body before he helps the other men pull the boats farther up and onto the beach. He knew that he would be going with the people going to set up some kind of camp for everyone, so he payed very little attention to the conversations the viking warriors were having, and payed more attention to where the people like the healers, and boat builders where going. It seemed like some people were going to go and take a look at the village. He thought that was a smart idea, for if they didn't, then they would have no idea what they were running into. If he was going to be fighting with them, thats what he would want to have happen. To know what he was going to be up against. However he pushed those thoughts away and went after the people going to set up camp for everyone. That was his job, so that he can set up an area to work on weapons if he needed to while he was here.

The whole trip seemed to go by fairly quickly, but that probably had more to do with the fact that Hvitserk spent the majority of it either talking to Sassa or staring at and attempting to talk to Hilde. It had been fairly uneventful. So once they reached their destination, Hvitserk was getting excited to get all of this underway. He had a good feeling about it. Which would probably be taken more seriously if he didn’t have a good feeling about almost everything he did. But just because he was confident, didn’t mean he was wrong.

He felt bad for poor Sassa though. She was getting seasick, and he’d been able to tell by the way she creeped away from Arngeir that she didn’t want everyone to know about it. He’d taken to standing with his back to her, arms crossed over his chest, as she got sick all over the side of the boat. The blacksmith was doing the same thing, and occasionally would do something to attract attention to himself. Hvitserk nodded at him in greeting when they both realized what the other was doing. He was good people, it seemed.

Once they were ashore, Hvitserk couldn’t keep the smile off his face. When someone asked what the village looked like, Ivar almost immediately gathered a group to go and take a look at the place. Hvitserk looked back and forth between his brothers before shrugging to himself and following Ivar. He was curious about the village. And getting a layout of the place could only help when trying to make plans and formulate an attack. Plus, he was just too restless to stay and try to make camp at the moment.

Turning to Sassa, he tapped her shoulder and nodded in Ivar’s direction. “You guys coming?” he wondered, grinning at her before nodding at Arngier. He didn’t really know the viking very well but he was with Sassa now, so Hvitserk assumed he was a decent man.

Since the raid was announced, Hilde couldn’t help but feel like her destiny was finally going to be fulfilled. Growing up with an old valkyrie that always told her about her adventures, her raids, her wars, was the main reason why the girl actually choose to be a fighter herself. She wanted to be like the woman that raised her and most importantly she wanted to meet her again in Valhalla, where she was sure Bryrja was.

The journey had been great. It wasn’t the first time she travelled with a boat and moving from Uddevalla was definitely harder than moving from anywhere else, so she was pretty relaxed on the boat. Well, most of the time she was, given the fact that she could feel Hvitserk’s eyes on her pretty often. She wasn’t annoyed by him staring at all, but she didn’t want to draw anyone else’s attention on herself. Luckily for her though, another girl wasn’t feeling well and people were more concerned about what was going on with her, rather than looking at a silent and cold girl that barely spoke a word. Hilde however felt bad for the girl, but didn’t do anything to help her as she saw she already had all the help she needed.

The shores were close and finally Hilde could felt the excitement building up in her whole body. They landed and Hilde jumped out of the boat before helping the other warriors that were pushing it out of the sea. A small group of people was gathering close to the boat and once she saw the Ragnarssons talking, she immediately moved closer to listen to them. She arrived right when a man asked about the village and Ivar, the youngest of the brothers, suggested they go take a look at it. Since everyone agreed to his plan, Hilde simply followed the group when they started walking, finally able to focus on something else other than Hvitserk’s gaze on her and hoping that he was busy enough not to distract her as he always did only by being close to her.

Today was the day, Eldora couldn't believe it had finally came to be apart of something like this was unimaginable and yet it has happened, it is happening. She had made a sacrifice to Odin and Eir for there commute to Hjortdal, to be safe and successful. Eldora smiled to herself as she began to head to the beach, with a large trunk of ointments, oils, leaves, bark, plants, berries, tools, bandages and rags, maybe she did over pack maybe, she pack too much things but it's better to be safe than sorry. Eldora placed her trunk into the boat that, she was sailing in and glanced around at the warriors a small smile from time to time.

She knew no one on the raid other then floki, Ivar and Hvitserk; which even in another boat, she thought it was cute how he watch other blonde women, But Eldora couldn't see her face, she also noticed another women being sick on the other boat, but she could do nothing to ease her comfort as, she was on the other boat. Eldora smiled to herself watching Kattaget get smaller and smaller in the distance, til all she saw was sea for miles around. On the boat there were interesting people, but again, Eldora kept to herself til her eyes caught sight of Ivar, he was an interesting soul and good looking....  she noticed how he kept to himself not really engaging in conversation. Perhaps it was being he didn’t like sailing? The more she stared the more it was obvious to him. Making eye contact Eldora blushed and quickly averted her gaze elsewhere honestly he already thought she was weird, Eldora didn’t want him to think she was even more strange by staring at him. she thought to herself with a sigh, to pass the time by just looking out at the sea, though her thoughts were interrupted by red hair someone who introduce herself as Breda who would be her assistant on the raid along with her friend Lounn.

Hours seem to pass and finally they had arrived Eldora did a little stretch to loosen her muscles and jumped out of the boat, getting rim of her dress wet. Eldora glanced over to Ubbe was it and Ivar discuss something, she wasn't really paying attention, she started to instruct the slave to help her with her truck. She glanced over her shoulder. " I'm going to have my tent set up incase of any casualty.. Eldora said out loudly, whoever was listening to her heard her. she turned her head and slowly made her way more in land, with the slaves and other people who would mainly be at the camp the whole duration of this raid.

The boat ride had done him good, it had been such a long time since he last had been on a boat and on the waves and he could say for sure that he had missed it. But now being here feeling how the wood cut through the water and how it floated over the waves moving them forward towards their destiny it did in fact make him feel more alive. That and the fact that his love was now at his side. He was quite excited about this, though he had already fought many battles… he guessed that it might have to do something with the fact that Sassa was so excited and it might just brush off on him. Thora had joined too and even though the second time he had met the woman hadn’t been the most pleasant time he was glad to see her here to. After all it was a fact that Sassa and Thora were good friends and he trusted Thora to look out for the fresh Thegn. Of course he wouldn’t let her out of his side either but there was just so much he could do on his own and in a raid in battle it was easy to lose sight of something or someone.

On a boat however that was another matter and it had not escaped his attention that Sassa seemed to sneak off from him sometimes. On those moments surprisingly the young prince and the man he knew as one of the blacksmiths from Kattegat seemed to take up a lot of attention. However he did notice that his fresh love had not been feeling well. And yes of course he did wonder if she was totally fine. But she tried so hard sneaking of and tried not to be noticed that he did not say anything of it. Nor started to pay much attention to it either. It was for sure her first boat journey and being sea sick wasn’t an unusual thing. Furthermore he trusted that she would tell him if anything was wrong.
Stepping in the water towards the sand and taking the ropes to drag the boat further onto the shore he liked the feeling of it. And his senses started to get sharp. Stepping further on the beach he stood next to his love and looked over the young princes as they were discussing what to do next. Looking… That was indeed the smartest thing to do. His eyes moved to Ubbe and Ivar as they seemed to get ready to go take a look.

His eyes moved to Sassa as she moved closer to him, grabbing his arm as she spoke "Are you ready for this? Because I am as ready as I'll ever be..."He somewhere wondered if she was ready for this. But no matter what he would protect her the best he could. This village didn’t seem like it would be much trouble but then surprises always seemed to lurk around the corners. He gave her a nod and light smile. ”Of course I am.” He would always be ready for this. After that his attention got pulled towards. Hvitserk, that put a soft hand on Sassa’s shoulder while nodding towards Ivar. “You guys coming?” He asked. Argneir never had been much in contact with any of the princes. He knew well enough that Sassa was good friends with them and well the kid didn’t look to bad. So he did not mind getting to know them and maybe even becoming friends. Though he probably never would become the biggest fan of Ironside. He gave Hvistserk a light smile before a determined look. ”You don’t think you can keep all the fun to yourself, do you?” He said with a light tease in his voice, but meaning it well as he looked at Sassa and then started to walk.

Standing at the front of the boat he looked excited over to the village that came in side. Hopping up and down slightly as he let out a light laugh. He actually was glad now that Ivar had asked him to come. He was glad that he came. He almost had forgotten how exciting this could be. But more than excited over the raid itself he wondered how the brothers would do. And with this group… He calmed down and looked over the boats and its people. With this group it did look as if some interesting things would happen. His eyes moved up to the sky as they reached the chore. Yes it did seem like the gods had plans. He smirked lightly as he looked back at the village in the distance. His facial expression going back to neutral as he jumped of the boat once it stood still. Letting well the others make sure to carry it closer to land as he already stepped towards the dry sand. His eyes still fixated on the village. Before his head snapped back once they carried out the chariot he had made for Ivar. He had to say he was quite proud that he could do this for little Ivar. Made this raid all the more promising and he did hope that the boy would get experiences he hadn’t had before and that his cold blood would run hot while cutting down any poor bastard that came in his way.

He did not move from his spot as the brothers came together. His eyes moving back to the land, but he did catch everything they spoke of. A man from the crowd asking if they knew what the village looked like. No they didn’t, what was… well. No problem. ”Then let’s go take a look.” Ivar announced. Yes that was smart, though they better not go with too many. A small efficient group would be more than enough. But the old boat builder did not say a word. Turning on his heel towards Ivar. ’Or do you rather walk in there without knowing where you will walk into to?’ Challiging his brother it seemed but still Ivar did wait for Ubbe to agree. He held in the light laugh that wanted to come out as he walked up to Ivar as he turned the Chariot around. ”I will come with you Ivar.” He said while hopping on the chariot behind Ivar. Looking at him and giving him a smile. Though a more challenging look came up, though what he wanted to say… He swallowed those words again and looked straight, letting out a light laugh. He was curious to see what this village looked like, but also what kind of plan the brothers would come up with. Especially what Ivar would piece together. Again everything seemed to be very promising.

Thora loves the sea, loves fast ships that ride the waves like a bird rides the wind. She's noticed Sassa's difficulty with the voyage, but the other girl doesn't bring it up and so neither does she. She's seen others get seasick before, generally it passes as they get accustomed to the rocking of the boats. But as far as Thora is concerned, the journey, as much as she loves sailing, is far too short. She's eager to reach their destination, it's been far too long since she's been on a raid and she misses it fiercely. She's full of a wild joy when they finally reach the village, and she's quick to jump from the boat when it grinds upon the sand. As much as she loves the sea, the feel of the wet sand beneath her feet is welcome, if only because it means that soon there will be fighting.

She watches with bright, curious eyes as everyone begins to mill around, slowly splitting into two groups. Some will stay and make camp, others will explore. Merely on principle, it's hard for her not to roll her eyes when Ivar speaks. She knows he's right, and she's full of restlessness and doesn't want to stay on the shore. But Ivar is leading the exploration party, and right now isn't the time to push boundaries and get into fights amongst themselves. She jogs over to Ubbe after Ivar and the others leave, noting that a large number of the raiding party has opted to explore. She watches them go, then turns to Ubbe with a grin and nudges him playfully with her shoulder. She's full of too much energy to stand still beside him for long, and with another playful nudge and a quick wink, she jobs back over to the ship and jumps back in. She grabs an armload of supplies and leaps back ashore to start to set up camp.

If I had a heart I could love you ,
If I had a voice I would sing.

That whole travel on boat he just said there, clamped on the edge of the boat, looking over the unsteady ocean as he tried to be as cold and distant as he usually was. He was a cripple on the water, whatever happened … he couldn’t swim. So he feared … deep down he feared that water but he didn’t showed it, not to his brothers, not to Thora who was looking at him sometimes, not to anybody. He hardly said a word, he listened to others while in his mind a raid was already breaking out. In the past days he had to prove so much, pushing his brothers on letting them come, they did, because of Floki who build him a chariot, who build him the legs to walk with. The thoughts, the thrill of that first ride made him smiling, throwing looks fort and back with the man who taught him everything.

Arriving they all set to work, Ivar claimed his chariot as fast as he claimed his attitude again, Pulling himself on it as he took the reins, scratching his helmet over his head as everybody pointed his attention to his eldest brother. But Ivar had other means, means he put out there the moment somebody asked if they know how the village looked like. How should they know? This was there first raid. Ivar rolled his eyes, giving his eldest brother a small nod before he turned his chariot and walked with a small group away, including Hvitserk, what made his ego always a little stronger, given at least one brother backed him up. Floki jumped on the chariot and Ivar his eager smile grew even bigger.

Ivar crossed his arms over his chariot, looking from this distance over to the village. They stood nearby a travel road, looking from between the trees to the village, no defenses, no guards. Ivar looked aside to his brother shrugging before scratching his hair. ‘That’s it?’ One of the men asked. ‘Never underestimate the innocents of a village. That is what father used to say.’ He chuckled looking aside to Hvitserk. ‘Isn’t it?’ He said looking back to the village and tilting his head. ‘Walking in there on this travel road doesn’t seem like a good idea without us knowing how many warrior they have, beside, wouldn’t they ran all ways.’ It was like he was talking against himself. ‘Split up?’ Hvitserk suggested. Ivar opened his mouth looking aside to his brother before squeezing his eyes and looking back to the village. He threw a look over his shoulder to Floki, measuring his reaction before reacting. ‘One group attacking from that side and the other from that side.’ He pointed out, leaning over the edge and smacking his brother chuckling against the shoulder. ‘Let’s go tell our brothers.’ He smiled, turning his chariot around to go back to Ubbe and the others. With that the plan was set and they could prepare for a raid. One group would attack from the left side of the travel road, the other group from the right side. In that way the villagers couldn’t run anywhere except for over the travel road itself or into the water.
