.if i die, i die
Two light eyes, full of hope and innocent closed peacefully while the darked-haired girl almost ended her story. A story about a great warrior who once lived, fighting for his king and the things he believed in. A warrior who went to Walhalla and would fight and drink with his fellow warrior friends. Naemi always told her sister and brother a story before they went to sleep. And it had always the same, great warrior in it as a reminder of the man their father was. Ebba and Bjarne were only 2 years old when he died and they probably didn't remember a thing of him. Naemi on the other hand, remembered him every day. Curious if he would be proud, if he would have done things the same way. Sometimes even a little bit sad maybe, sad that he wasn't able to see the little ones grow or to see how she has grown so far.
"And then the warrior went back home. You know who were waiting for him at the side of the water?" Naemi said quietly to her little siblings. "His children!" Bjarne answered enthousiastic. Naemi smiled towards her brother. "Indeed, his children who he loves dearly." And that was the end of the story. Naemi kissed her little siblings goodnight, went out of there tiny room to see it was still light outside. Her mother smiled at her, she had heard the story Naemi had told. Naemi smiled back before going outside, straight towards the shoreline.

Everytime her father came back from where ever they he went, he would made a little shell necklace for her and Ebba. She wore them for days nor weeks, and it always made her happy. Now she wanted to do the same for her sister. Naemi knew the way through Kattegat like the back of her hand and found herself at the shoreline easly.
It began to dusk, what is the perfect time to seek for shells. The water calmed down and if you knew where to look, you could find them easly. So her father said. But Naemi had never looked for shells, even had no idea where to start. So she just.. Started. Her light eyes were focussed on the sand while her mind found peace hearing the sea moving. Her face lighted up when she saw the first shell and in all her excitement she ran towards the white tiny shell.

Don't fear death if it comes, embrace it as if you lying down next to a beautifull woman. Don't look back to what you had but look forward to what you can achieve, in that way the Gods can gift you with beauty that even a woman doesn't have.
The usual always again and again and again. He sitting aside Hvitserk while Ivar and Sigurd did their thing again, making an argument about even the smallest subject or detail. Ubbe grabbed gestured one of the slaves to come closer to serve him so new ale, Hvitserk almost directly asking the same. They gave each other a promising look. Normally mother would be around to end this madness but she was away, again to by the gods … who would know that. So he, as eldest in the house just sat there, looking from Sigurd to Ivar who stood on a point where he tried to kill his brother with just a look, like usual. ‘Tell him I’m right.’ Ivar demanded from Ubbe. Ubbe looked aside to Hvitserk who only shrugged big help. ‘I’m not picking sides brother.’ ‘Hvitserk?’ Ivar asked. Hvitserk shook his head and Ivar growled, pushing his plate away before throwing himself on the ground. Ubbe gave Sigurd a warning glare while they all kept silent until Ivar was out of the building. ‘You seriously had to do that.’ Ubbe reacted towards Sigurd. He just shrugged. Ubbe drank his cup empty and stood up. Out of here, an option that was a usual thought just after dinner.

He walked a whole part between the houses, looking for Ivar in some kind of way. But that spoiled brad didn’t turned up so Ubbe walked back over the shoreline. Just as he was planning to take the road back to the great hall he noticed a figure. He stood still, looking for a short part over the water, the sun going down before his eyes traveled back to the figure. It was a girl, young woman and she was looking for something? It was typical male instinct, or at least with his young age, to walk over. His feet did it almost automatic. And then all of the sudden she found something and started running. He would never understand the woman brain. If you thought Ivar was a pain in the ass you should see some woman on a occasion or two. The thoughts made him smile, walking that last bit of distance. ‘See that you found where you were looking for.’ He said, not that loud. Ubbe wasn’t the dangerous one, for that he had a brother or two. He looked towards her hands, to the shell she held. ‘And here I was thinking you found something big.’ The corner of his mouth came up a little, not offensive, neither putting any meaning in his words. For him this was maybe just a shell, for her it could be so much more …

.if i die, i die
It was tough, being the oldest child of a man who died years ago. Taking care of her little siblings, making sure her mother was happy and well. Naemi carried a lot on her shoulders, had many things on her mind and was still evolving herself. She loved taking care of her family, she loved them with whole her heart. But sometimes it was hard, difficult and did it look like a never ending story.
Like the bedtime stories Naemi tells Ebba and Bjarne. Stories about one great Viking, that one man who died years ago. Normally she would kiss her siblings goodnight, talk a bit with her mother and then join the others in the village. Or she would go to Helios for a ride, for a cuddle or just because she wanted to be near him. But this time was different, this time her story brought up memories. Naemi went to the shoreline, her feet knew the way while her mind was still repeating those memories.

”Naemi, please. Listen to me, it’s already late. You’ll see him tomorrow.” The little girl heard her mother, but the words didn’t come through. Her eyes where looking at the sea with excitement and hope. The woman stroke the long, dark hair of the little girl and in that moment, the boats arrived. “There, mother! There!” The girl screamed, cheering and clapping. The woman smiled, and other villagers surrounded them to welcome there loved once home.

When she arrived the shoreline, her search began. Naemi wanted to make a necklace for Ebba, like her father always did. People who knew Naemi, wouldn’t probably say that she had a loving heart. Sure, she could be nice to be around with, but would always have her doubts and that cold look. But for the once she loves or trust, she would do anything. Now she wanted to see Ebba smile again, feeling like she used to feel:  loved.
Finding those shells wasn’t easy, if you didn’t even know where to start. The night was coming and the sun was going down so the moon could take her place. It was still light enough to search, so Naemi started walking while her feet were leaving prints in the sand. She was focused, obviously a woman on a mission. And then she found her first shell. She ran over to it, not knowing one of the Ragnarsson was watching her every move. Naemi picked up the shell, looking at the fine patron of lines on it. It was mostly white, here and there some brown spots. ‘See that you found where you were looking for.’ A voice said out of the sudden. He sup priced her and because of the scare she almost dropped the shell. Naemi turned around and got her act together immediately when she saw it was one of Ragnars sons talking to her. She smiled a bit and twisted her head a little to the right. ”Indeed I did,” She said, her voice calm and clear. ”At least one of it.”
Naemi wasn’t sure if Ubbe would recognize her, if he even knew her name.  ‘And here I was thinking you found something big.’ Ubbe said and Naemi grin a bit. She took her eyes of him to look at the shell, turning it around between her fingers. ”Why do boys always want to have ‘big things’?” She asked him, pulling up her eyebrows with a teasing look in her eyes. ”This little shell could become something big, if I can find other shells.” She then explained to him. Naemi looked at the shoreline again, stepped aside and picked up another shell. A dark one, this time.

at least I'll go down fighting.
Thank you Sarah!

Don't fear death if it comes, embrace it as if you lying down next to a beautifull woman. Don't look back to what you had but look forward to what you can achieve, in that way the Gods can gift you with beauty that even a woman doesn't have.
Seeing he wasn’t the only one on the shoreline surprised him a little. Not that it was usual, it was just, the most people had other things on their mind this time of the day. The sun started to pull down on the horizon. He had watched that for hundred times already in his life, usually when his father was away and he was waiting. He and Hvitserk said on the docks then waiting for ships to arrive at the horizon. But it never happened, his father always arrived on the moments Ubbe wasn’t sitting there. And even now, the thoughts that Ragnar would maybe never come back scared him in some way. Maybe there wouldn’t be a king anymore, leaving everybody shattered. Ubbe pulled up quite good but it was Ivar he had the most concern over. That boy just didn’t remember his limits. And he was the eldest of the four so he needed to take control, or at least, when Björn wasn’t around.

When he got closer he recognized the figure running over the beach. He recognized her hair, her movements, Naemi. They were together in training often, he didn’t knew her that well but a smile spread over his lips when he saw her walking. Or rather running, it looked like she found something. What was she doing here at the shoreline on this hour, running and grabbing things? He narrowed his eyes, looking to what she had picked up before he started to speak. She scared, he won at least that. Under the Thegn’s here in Kattegat it was always a little competition. She smiled, tilting her head a little and he smiled back, looking down to her hand when she explained that he had found at least something. When she stated the fact why boys always needed to find something big he chuckled. ‘We are boys Naemi, what do you thing. We always want something big.’ He reacted right back, looking down over the sand before he looked back to her when she started to speak again. Now it was his turn to tilt his head a little. ‘Is that a direct order for me to help you looking?’ He asked her right back, amused. He crossed is arms, looking down over the sand already while he started walking again. ‘Making something out of it?’ He asked without looking to her, he looked down into the sand until he found something. He crouched, taking the shell and turning it around in his fingers. ‘Is this enough?’ He asked, looking back to her while standing up and walking back, dropping it down in her hand. ‘At least, if you want the company.’ He referred to the fact he wanted to help her looking. Offcourse only if she wanted that.

.if i die, i die
The man grabbed his arms around the little girl, pulling her close to his chest. “I’ve missed you, father.” The little girl mumbled with a smile from ear to ear. “Look what I made for you,” The man said softly. The little girl her eyes grew while clapping enthusiastic with her little hands. “It’s a necklace I made for you, a necklace made with love.” Her father whispered in her ear before giving her his present. In that small moment, the girl felt victorious and so well loved. A necklace made out off shells from across the sea.

Naemi looked at the sea while it softly touched itself before striking the sand. It was a long time ago, but the memories kept repeating in her head. She almost drowned in her own memories, if it wasn’t for the little shell she found in the sand. The young woman ran over to it like she would lose it if she wasn’t fast enough. Ubbe scared her when he spoke and Naemi felt a little caught because she hadn’t see him coming. They train together and she didn’t want to give him the feeling she would let her guard down for just a little moment. And maybe it was too late for that, but it would not happen again soon for sure.
Naemi was truly sup priced when Ubbe said her name, as she thought he wouldn’t know her by name. ‘We are boys Naemi, what do you thing. We always want something big.’ He replied. Naemi turned the shell between her fingers while her eyes looked at Ubbe. ”How predictable,” She said with a teasing tone in her voice. ”So you never take pleasure with small things?” She asked him, putting double meaning in her words. There was a little grin around her lips, but it didn’t take the slightly cold and distant appearance away.
‘Is that a direct order for me to help you looking?’ She heard the amused tone in his voice and a she laughed a bit. ”Only if you can deal with your losses.” She said back, wobbling with her eyebrows. She picked up the second shell she found besides her leg, showing it to Ubbe. ”Ready?” Her voice sounded amused and Naemi made herself ready for a run. ”Set, GO!” When she said the ‘go’, she pushed against Ubbe’s arm hoping for a head start. ”The first with 20 shells wins.” There was nothing wrong with a little healthy competition.

at least I'll go down fighting.
Thank you Sarah!

Don't fear death if it comes, embrace it as if you lying down next to a beautifull woman. Don't look back to what you had but look forward to what you can achieve, in that way the Gods can gift you with beauty that even a woman doesn't have.
Predictable … he laughed when she said that. But she was right, men often were more predictable than woman. Only in battle things could change for the better but other than that you could forecast a lot of their activities and words. Which on his age was mostly, drinking, having fun and girls. Although there was a lot of weight on the shoulders of the young prince of Kattegat, Ubbe tried to life his life to the fullest, like his father would do if he would still be here. Every time he thought about his father he was gazing over the water surface, like he expected his father to sail in any minute, while they all knew he left on foot. It was something that never left his mind, therefore he spend a lot of time at the bay, the shoreline or the docks, looking over the water, hoping, thinking about when that Ragnar was planning on returning. When she went further with her words he started to laugh for sure, giving her that kind of a smile that was hard to resist. ‘What do you think yourself.’ He titled his head. Knowing they both knew the answer of that. Offcourse he held as much of the small things than the bigger.

It just weren’t shells. He looked over the sand after them while Naemi challenged him in some kind of way. He jerked his head around and looked at her, she showed him another shell. But before he had even a change to make the rules a little clearer she was already giving the starter sound. He started to run more towards the water. ‘What do I get when I win? Or you. Not that I think you can beat me.’ He smiled amused, picking up the first shell he found on the beach. Off course, he came here a lot but it wasn’t to look for shells. In that way she could have a little advantage of the situation. The waves hit is feet, causing the shells to always move under the water surface. Not a good tactic, he went a little further away from the water starting to look there. But when he looked aside to Naemi it looked like she had a way easier way of finding her shells. Boys loved to bend the rule a little, or not playing along with them but in this case Ubbe had no idea how he could possible change this to more advantage for him. 'Do you do this often? Running over the beach and collecting shells?' He shout out to her. Maybe a little talking would distract her from her task. But she was a shield maiden in learning ... she learned to get not distracted.
