This is all about us [Hakon] Empty
PostSubject: This is all about us [Hakon] This is all about us [Hakon] EmptySun Feb 25, 2018 7:07 am

A few days ago, Freyja had had an incredibly eventful evening few hours, starting with Hakon drunkenly waking her up in the middle of the night to tell her he had feelings for her, and followed by the two of them discussing the situation the following morning. But the reason he’d shown up sad and drunk in the first place was because his dog had died and Freyja had been absolutely heartbroken on his behalf. She’d quite liked Fenrir, and even felt a little guilty because she’d been watching him for Hakon while he’d been in Kattegat and it had happened almost as soon as he’d returned.

So, deciding she wanted to do something for him, she’d left the docks early, leaving Aleinn in charge for a few hours, and made her way out to Vern’s farm, hoping the entire way that he still had a puppy for sale. He’d had a few when she’d gone there a few weeks ago to get herself one. Luckily he did, and she picked out the only little boy puppy left and carried him back into the village.

She was a little worried that he wouldn’t really want a new dog, especially so quickly, but Freyja knew Hakon liked dogs so hopefully that wouldn’t be too much of an issue. Also she worried that two puppies would be more work than either of them had time for, since she practically lived with him already even though there hadn’t really been any sort of official discussion on the matter. But Rane followed Freyja to his house most evenings, and now there’d be a second puppy, which could prove difficult. But they could probably get Sofie & Tóra to puppy-sit during the day if they needed to, so Freyja was trying her best to just think positively.

Hakon wasn’t home when she got there, because it was still fairly early, so she put the puppy down and let him sniff around the house while she started making dinner. He was from the same litter as Rane, so he was already a few months old and mostly house trained, which was nice. The door opened sooner than she’d expected, and Hakon walked in and before she could explain why she was there so much earlier than normal, the little puppy came running towards the door, yipping happily at the new arrival and dancing around Hakon’s feet. “Surprise?” she said with a slightly questioning look, watching his face closely for a reaction. “That’s not Rane,” she added quickly, just in case he didn’t pick up on it immediately.

PostSubject: Re: This is all about us [Hakon] This is all about us [Hakon] EmptyTue Feb 27, 2018 7:11 am

Hakon is working on a special project this afternoon, just something small because he likes to make things with his hands and he loves working in his forge. He spent the morning putting the finishing touches on a sword, and the buyer had been delighted when he picked it up just before lunch. Hakon always liked when his work was appreciated, partly because he took such pride in it, and partly because pleased customers paid better. He'd considered making a necklace, but he's no jeweler, and his tools aren't quite small enough for the delicate work that would require. Brooches are about the most delicate thing he can make, but today he's trying something entirely different. He much prefers steel to silver, but he sucks it up. He heats the silver and gets to work.

A few hours later, he has to admit it isn't his finest work, but he thinks Freyja will like it anyway. It's a thin cuff to slip around her wrist, composed of two silver bands twisted together. He knows she works with her hands, and so he knows it might not be something she wears every day, but he doesn't care. He wants her to have it, just in case she ever wants to wear it. So she can look at it and know he crafted it just for her, that he poured all his focus and all his love into its making. Hakon may not be very good at expressing himself with words, but forging is a way of expression to him, one that he's eloquent in. He lips the small little bracelet into his pocket, banks the fire in the forge, and locks his shop for the day. He isn't expecting any more customers for the day, and he wants to surprise Freyja by having dinner started by the time she arrives. He's happy as he walks across the yard between his forge and the house.

He pushes open the door, and isn't surprised to be greeted by a happily yipping puppy. Rane follows Freyja here most nights, and while sometimes the sight of him makes his heart ache, generally he's glad to have him around. He hasn't even really looked down at the puppy, because Freyja immediately says "surprise" and his brow wrinkles in confusion. She's here a bit earlier than normal, but then she speaks again and he realizes the surprise isn't her. It's the puppy. He sinks down to his knees and holds his hands out to the wriggling little fur ball, and now that he's actually looking at the puppy, it's obvious it isn't Rane. "Well then what's his name?" His voice is light and curious, and he grins up at her from where he's crouching on the floor. The puppy chooses that moment to jump up and plant his paws on Hakon's chest, and the man simply sprawls back on the floor as if the light jump has knocked him over. He's laughing as the dog covers his face in energetic licks, and he reaches into his pocket and waves the twisted silver bracelet in the air. He assumes Freyja is still watching him. "I made this for you today."

Watching his face, Freyja could tell he was a bit confused at first, and she wasn’t sure if it was because she was there before him or because she’d said ‘surprise’ when the situation didn’t immediately appear to call for it. It wasn’t really much of a surprise that she was there, after all. Would not have been the greatest surprise, she could admit. But after she pointed out that the puppy wanting his attention was a new puppy, his reaction was absolutely adorable. Though, after that whole closet fiasco, Freyja was pretty sure ‘adorable’ would be received with the same scorn as ‘dreamy’ so she kept those thoughts to herself.

What’s his- I’m naming him?” Well… she hadn’t thought of that. “Okay, um…I’ve never had to name a boy before,” she told him with a grin, watching the exchange in front of her. Freyja laughed when Hakon ‘fell’ over from the puppy’s vicious attack, and got an idea. “What about Draken? A fierce name for a fierce puppy?” Hopefully he agreed because Freyja didn’t have any other ideas at the moment.

Despite his being on the floor with a dog playfully attacking him, Hakon still managed to reach into his pocket and pull out something to wave in the air at her. She walked over and took it from him after he announced he’d made it for her. Freyja sat down on the floor facing him, cross-legged, and admired the bracelet. She put it on immediately, and traced her finger over the twisted silver for a moment. It was thin and looked delicate, but she was pretty confident it was something she could normally wear, even when she was working. She wanted to ask why, but remembered he hadn’t really cared for that reaction when he’d given her that knife a while back.

Thank you, I love it. I’d kiss you but it seems you’re a bit busy at the moment. I wouldn’t want to interrupt,” she said with a grin, spinning and adjusting the bracelet a bit while watching him play with the puppy. “Good surprise?” she wondered, despite his laughter. He looked happy about it, but she’d been a little concerned at first, so some verbal confirmation would be nice. “I started dinner already, since I was home first,” she added, nodding her head towards the hearth.

When he'd buried Fenrir, Hakon had thought he wouldn't want another dog for a long time, possibly not ever again. The old dog had been his constant companion through everything, a reminder of the wild-eyed, scrawny boy who strolled into Vidar's forge and demanded to be taught his craft. Fenrir had been with him as he learned his craft, when Vidar died, and when he opened his own forge and moved into his own house. Fenrir had been there as Hakon slowly changed from troublesome, angry youth into a calm, steady, hardworking man. He's leapt about his feet as he delivered finished projects, accompanied to the docks to visit Freyja, and napped in the forge while Hakon was working. The two had been nearly inseparable, and Hakon was still certain he would never recover from his loss. But looking up at the new puppy playfully licking him, feeling the grin on his own face, he knew he was wrong. He would always carry Fenrir's memory, but that doesn't mean he would have to mourn him forever.

He laughs at Freyja's shock over having to name a boy. He reaches up to ruffle the puppy's fur, considering her suggestion. Draken. It's perfect. He raises his head to look over the wriggling fluff ball on his chest at Freyja, grinning. "Perfect! I knew you could name a boy." He reaches into his pocket to wave the bracelet at her, even as he's being licked half to death and loving it. He rubs Draken's ears after Freyja takes the bracelet, making the little puppy sigh in contentment and immediately flop over lazily. Hakon scoops him up into his arms and lunges up into a sitting position as Freyja speaks, crossing his legs and settling Draken in his lap, where he's content to gnaw lightly on one of Hakon's fingers.

They're fully settled just after Freyja says she doesn't want to interrupt, and Hakon grins mischievously at her, sitting across from him on the floor. He watches her play with the bracelet, and although he was fairly certain she would like it, watching her adjust it and hearing her thank him for it relaxes him. There was still part of him that worried she would just ask him why he made it for her, like she did with the knife. He's glad she seems to have come to terms with the fact that sometimes he's just going to make her things. "Not busy anymore." He tells her cheekily, scooting closer to her. The puppy sighs in mild protest as Hakon leans over to capture her mouth in a kiss. He playfully sucks on her bottom lip for a moment before he pulls back enough to nod. "Very good surprise. Thank you, Freyja." He leans closer again, nuzzling his face against the crook of her neck before planting a soft kiss there. He pauses there to breathe in her scent before he sits back up. "Excellent, I'm starved." That's something that wouldn't be a surprise, at least. Hakon has a very healthy appetite.

PostSubject: Re: This is all about us [Hakon] This is all about us [Hakon] EmptyThu Mar 15, 2018 6:33 am

Watching Hakon interact with the puppy, Freyja found herself thinking of how quickly things had changed for her, and how easily she’d adjusted. Until Sofie had stuck her nose in Freyja’s business, the idea of ‘finding a man, and settling down’ had been more of a joke than a likelihood. A week ago, she lived at home with her sisters, and while she’d been thinking of getting her own place ever since her mother moved out of their house, it had kind of remained a ‘someday soon’ sort of thing, and she hadn’t actually put any real effort into it. But now, she lived with Hakon and was quite fond of everything that entailed. Which now included two puppies.

Freyja grinned when Hakon laughed and made a quip about her ability to name a boy. “Well, it was very stressful. Let’s not make me do it again,” she replied sarcastically, still fiddling with the bracelet a bit. She shook her wrist after tightening it to see how much it moved around on it’s own. She wanted to be able to wear it often, but would need to remove it while she worked if it didn’t stay in place. But she was happy when she decided that didn’t seem to be a problem.

When he sat up and adjusted Draken in his lap, Freyja had to resist the urge once again to tell him how adorable they both looked. She’d tuck that away for later, when his reaction would be a lot more fun for her. After her teasing about not wanting to interrupt, she was glad he’d picked up on her not so subtle hint, and tilted towards him as soon as he leaned towards her for a kiss. Her hand rose to rest against his neck, pulling him closer as she returned his kiss, and Freyja grinned against his lips at his teasing. “You’re welcome,” she answered, but sighed reluctantly when he sat up once again.

Finally getting back to her feet, so she could check on the food she was cooking, Freyja held her hand out to help him up. “Now that we’ve gotten the surprises out of the way,” she began, thinking it was pretty funny that they’d both come home with a present for the other on the same night, “I did actually have something to talk to you about.” She was still struggling with how to phrase her question as a question he could even try to help her think of an answer to. It was all a little complicated, and so far Freyja was coming up blank. “What am I going to do about Visna and Tóra?” Now that Sofie had accidentally drawn some very unwanted attention to their family, Freyja was already playing defense. She didn’t know if anything else would actually come of everything that happened with Sofie, or if Halfdan’s visit to the docks would be the end of it, but she didn’t want to just hope that it was. She probably could have explained herself better, but she’d simply assumed Hakon would be able to follow her virtually nonexistent train of thought.
